Why would you spend $5 for a thing that should only cost $3? That’s the principle behind using coupons to save money. Besides, these coupons are free. You don’t have to pay for membership or any card just to get some. You only need to be wiser and know the tricks on how to save money with coupons.

Coupon Hunting

The first step to saving money with coupons is finding coupons. You can find discount coupons from:
Sunday newspapers. The advertising sections of the local Sunday newspapers usually have these discount coupons. These are slipped into the pages or printed on the paper. Get all the coupons you can find from the newspapers. You may not need the coupons today but who knows, you might just need them tomorrow.
Online coupons. Visit websites like SmartSource, AllYou, CouponMom, and Coupons. They will guide you where to get free online coupons. All you have to do is print the coupons. Check with your local stores also, just to make sure they accept print out online coupons. Some coupons can be copied to your mobile phone or your store discount card.

Now, you already have so many discount coupons. You don’t just stack them up on your table or pin them on your wall. These should be well-organized for future use.

Organizing Coupons

Have a binder where you can put all your discount coupons. Organize the coupons based on categories. For example, there should be coupons for groceries, drugstores, or department stores. You may organize these into sub-categories like cereals, milk, and detergent for groceries.

Aside from categories, take note of the coupons’ expiration date. Better organize the coupons in each category from near to far their expiration. This way, you’ll know you have to use certain coupons to take advantage of the discount.

Using the Coupons Properly

Don’t shop for a pair of shoes just because the discount coupon will be expiring soon. Instead, prioritize what you need before you take into the scene those coupons.

Make a list of the things you need to buy. Then, check if you have coupons for any of those in the list.

It’s okay to buy in bulk of the items that you regularly consume. For instance, you have 10 discount coupons for cereals. However, you still have some cereals to consume. It is okay to use the coupons here since you will only buy cereals next week. Make sure to check the items’ expiration date, though. These should be consumed before they get expired.

It may take some time to get the hang of using coupons. But this can be enjoyable especially if you love hunting and organizing plus saving money. Even if you don’t enjoy any of these, your effort will surely be well-paid off, literally.

Besides using coupons, there are still many other ways to save money. Buying only the things you need is one. That is why making a grocery list is very important because it keeps you from buying the things you don’t really need. Buying in bulk is a good way to get discounts, too. Check with your local grocery store if they offer promos, points, or rebates. These are additional ways to save money and later on, you might just be able to reward yourself with some sweet treats.
